Philosophy & Approach

It wasn't long after I first picked up my dad's digital point-and-shoot camera and aimed it loosely at the setting sun until I decided that this was what I wanted to do. I took inspiration from the greats such as Ansel Adams, Charlie Waite and Joe Cornish - trying to emulate them and practise by their philosophy.

When creating a landscape - whether it be on a digital sensor, or film sheet - I always apply the same purist philosophy and try to best capture the exact quality of light and emotion before me when I pressed the shutter button.

Below are a couple of quotes which I feel apply to landscape photography at least.

“Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer - and often the supreme disappointment”
Ansel Adams

“Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop”
Ansel Adams
